Work Experience:

Freelance Engineer

Since August of 2008 I have been a freelance audio engineer performing a wide variety of audio and technical related duties for various clients. Here are some of the highlights:

Sound Designer and Re-Recording Mixer for Art House

Record and Mix of Karen Newman’s A Glorious Gift 2009 for WDIV

Live Mixer: Arts Beats and Eats, Brenda Loomis and the Blue Coyote Band, many more.

Studio Tech Services: Gary Nester, Michael King, Rock City Studio, and more.

Yessian Music

Mixer, editor, engineer, sound designer, video editor, system technician, and studio installer at Yessian from April of 2003 to July of 2008. I have worked on final television and radio spots for Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Pontiac, ESPN, Outdoor Life Network, US Navy, Disney, the Detroit Pistons, and OnStar, to name a few.  I have also done mixing and editing for the 2005 Corvette product DVD, General Motors’ “Take A Ride” program, Discovery Channel’s Med-Air Trilogy, as well as audio post and sound design for exhibits displayed at the Singapore National Holocaust museum.

I was also responsible for keeping the facility running, computer maintenance, repair, and upgrades, troubleshooting hardware problems for all three locations and producing custom demo DVD’s.  My first year I was able to upgrade all of Yessian’s video hardware and software to work completely with uncompressed 10-bit video in Final Cut Studio, which was a major improvement for our reel.

My greatest accomplishment at Yessian was the construction and installation of the New York facility, which I supervised on-site for two months.  This included making decisions on gear purchases, studio layout, wiring, DAW installation, as well as dealing with construction, electrical, HVAC and other contractors.  This was a massive undertaking that provided me with a ton of valuable experience.

LoDuca Music

Chief Engineer for Joseph LoDuca from September of 1999 to April of 2003. During this time I was responsible for the recording, mixing, and editing of nearly every piece of music that was produced there.  This included numerous vocalists, ethnic and acoustic instruments, and more.

The music that these sessions created has been featured on film and television shows such as, Xena: The Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Cleopatra 2525, Jack of All

Trades, He-Man, and the motion picture Brotherhood of the Wolf in which I was also listed as the Music Editor for the film.  In addition to engineering, I have also done the final remixing and editing of soundtrack compilations for Xena, Hercules, and Brotherhood of the Wolf, which was released on Virgin Records worldwide in 2001-2002.

Finally, I was exclusively involved in the compilation and editing of large sample and drum loop libraries.  In doing so, I became extremely fluent in the use of Roland S-760 samplers, and many software programs including Cool Edit Pro, Sonic Foundry’s Acid, Gigastudio and the Gigastudio editor.  I have since added major experience with ProTools, Logic Pro, Digital Performer, Final Cut, DVD Studio Pro, Soundminer, plugins and softsynths including Waves, McDSP, Bomb Factory, Spectrasonics, Native Instruments, and a host of others.

Wayne State University

Responsible for maintaining and teaching lab sessions for the Intro to Music Technology course from September 1995 through April of 1999.  I also gave class lectures on music notation.

Recorded all Music Department concerts from September 1995 through April 1998.  These concerts are all stereo recordings, however most were mixed down live to two-track from up to twenty mics.

Live sound mixer for the Wayne State Vocal Jazz group “Jazz InVoice” from September 1996 through April 1998.  During this time, I mixed all of their shows as well as recording them.

Starting in May of 1998, I was responsible for maintaining the Wayne State Studio and all projects done in the studio.  That included numerous faculty and student demos, as well as a CD project in honor of their major donor.  Upon graduation in December 1998, I began teaching nearly all of the lab sessions for the recording classes and occasionally teaching class sessions for Professor Tom Court.

Jim Gibbons Audio/Visual Services

I have worked as a sound engineer for Mr. Gibbons from June of 1997 until present. During this time, I served for two years as the house soundman at Clutch Cargo’s Mill Street Entry in Pontiac, Michigan, where I worked with all of the bands during the late nineties swing revolution.  Besides Clutch Cargo’s I have worked over 500 live shows since 1997, most of which required loading in and setting up our own complete sound system and lights.  Some of the shows I have worked include the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, the Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival, and Pumpstock.  I have worked with a diverse array of bands and genres including country, jazz, blues, swing, classical, reggae, techno, rock, and heavy metal.

54 Sound

My internship for my degree was completed at 54 Sound studio in Ferndale, Michigan, which is owned by Joel Martin.  From July 1998 through September 1999, I worked as a studio assistant for Steve King who was the head engineer at this studio and now is exclusively on retainer with rapper Eminem. While assisting Mr. King, I also was able to run sessions for some of the studio’s clients including producers Jeff Bass and Nolan Mendenhall.
